Center Director - West Hawai‘i
Hazel has a background in business consulting focusing on global manufacturing companies with particular emphasis on supply chain management, cost reduction, process re-engineering and business practices. She has worked with clients in aerospace, automotive, telecommunications, semi‐conductor, electronics and retail sectors. Hazel received her BA in Business Management from Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio.
Center Director - East Hawai‘i
Born and raised in Hilo, Aaron has experience in the food and manufacturing industries where he worked and co-developed a gourmet specialty sauce company. He has expertise with financial/budget management, marketing, sales, manufacturing, business plan construction, and feasibility analysis. Aaron received a BS in Finance and an MBA from Oregon State University.
Center Director - Honolulu
Joe has many years of extensive high-level consulting experience with both private companies and U.S. Government facilities with particular emphasis in metrics development, implementation of a Balanced Scorecard system and aligning objectives, initiatives and metrics to drive strategy into action. He received a BA in Chinese-Liberal Arts from Oakland University in Michigan, and an MBA in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona. He is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) and is fluent in Chinese.
Senior Business Consultant - East Hawai‘i Center
Constance earned her BA in Business from the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo and an MBA from Grand Valley State University, Michigan. She began her SBDC career in Michigan followed by her return to Hawai‘i as a consultant in the Honolulu office and then to Hilo as Center Director. She holds a Hawai‘i CPA license. Constance’s areas of expertise encompass the full range of accounting and related analyses across a wide spectrum of industries and business sectors.
Assistant State Director - Lead Office
Prior to joining the Hawai‘i SBDC, Kurt spent five years in Hong Kong and mainland China engaged in business development in higher education, real estate and government relations at the provincial and national levels. This followed a career as national practice director for communications consulting with an international management consulting firm. His clients included Fortune 100 clients in insurance/financial services, healthcare and the public sectors. His early years were spent as a senior level executive with a major university medical center in St. Louis. He received his BA from the University of Missouri and continued his studies in the MBA program at St. Louis University.
Associate State Director - Lead Office
John previously served in the capacity of Interim State Director and has had a relationship with the Hawai‘i SBDC for over 18 years, with responsibilities for MIS and Quality. He came to the organization with over 20 years of executive level management experience in Information Technology and the High-Tech sectors, both as a consultant and leader of professional staff in the Defense sector. He received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin.
Senior Business Consultant - Honolulu Center
Prior to joining the Hawai‘i SBDC, Barrett was a co-founder of a marketing and business development corporation and has a strong record of assisting developing companies to conditions of stability and increasing growth. He brings skills in market development, strategic planning, private placement support, and information technology along with the organizational skills to effectively use them. Combined with his R & D and product development background at Xerox Corporation and Eastman Kodak, Barrett is able to move comfortably between technical and business environments. He received his PhD in Physics from Purdue University.
Business Consultant - West Hawai‘i
Nancy’s background includes senior management positions for prestigious properties managed by Westin Hotels, Hilton International, the Rosewood Group and Kona Village Resort. Her areas of expertise also include AgriTourism and the marketing, packaging and placement of Hawai‘i Farm Products.
Senior Business Consultant - Honolulu Center
His recent experiences include spearheading business development in both domestic and global environments, and in developing and executing strategic plans. Dennis has led financial, manufacturing production, process improvement, IT and facility management efforts both in Seoul, Korea and Shenzhen, China. He served as an analyst for both Credit Suisse First Boston in New York, NY and Barclays Capital in New York, NY. Dennis received his BBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He speaks fluent Korean and has a working knowledge of Mandarin.
Center Director - Kaua‘i
John comes to the organization from the Salt Lake Community College System where he served as a senior Administrator over workforce development, grants and contracts, institutional change and strategic planning. He has led numerous initiatives including transitioning from a technical college to a community college, developing and expanding several service centers and numerous programs, and facilitating a merger with another educational institution in the Utah System. He received his BLS and MA in from Bowling Green State and a PhD in Communications from the University of Utah.
Research Librarian - Hawai‘i Business Research Center and Library
Christine has transformed the Center from that of a traditional bricks and mortar library to a Center devoted to Economic Research and Analysis. She holds a BA degree in Economics from Simmons College in Boston and an MLIS degree from University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
Center Director - Maui
He has held executive level positions in the public sector as Director of Finance for the Port of Oakland and in a similar capacity for the NYSE listed Maui Land and Pineapple ‐ a dominant Hawai‘i real estate company with holdings in the resort, convention and golf course sectors. Fred received his BA from Cal State‐Hayward and his MBA from St. Mary’s College, CA.
State Director - Lead Office
Cathy joined the Hawaii SBDC after having served as the Associate State Director of the Virginia SBDC at George Mason University for the previous 8 years. Prior to that, she was a Senior Internal Auditor for George Mason University. Her earlier career included positions in the public sector, property management and telecommunications industries. Additionally, Cathy was small business owner. She received her BA in Business Management from Ursuline College in Ohio and her MPA from George Mason University.
